Sun Life leaders participate in "Cleantramuros"

With brooms, garbage bags, and trash tongs in hand, leaders of Sun Life Philippines, the first and longest-standing life insurance company in the Philippines, recently set out to participate in “Cleantramuros,” an initiative that aims to promote a culture of cleanliness among the Intramuros community, its students, and its visitors.

The executives took a day off from their busy schedules to participate in the volunteer activity facilitated by the company’s philanthropy arm, Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, in coordination with the Intramuros Administration.

Apart from the cleanup, the leaders likewise engaged with a group of Intramuros street sweepers and their family members in a tour of the compound also known as the Walled City. This not only provided a deeper appreciation of streets they keep clean, but also gave their loved ones a glimpse of the work they do to make it happen.

The activity wrapped up with Sun Life distributing Noche Buena packages to the street sweepers, as well as school kits for their children.

According to Sun Life Foundation Executive Director Kristine Millete, Sun Life’s leadership team regularly joins volunteer activities they hold throughout the year. “Led by Sun Life CEO & Country Head Benedict Sison, who is also the Chairman of the Sun Life Foundation, our leaders have no qualms in volunteering, whether it’s packing newborn kits in the office, cleaning up schools for Brigada Eskwela, or traveling to various Sun Life Barangay Health Stations for a site visit,” she said. “With our leaders modeling the way, it is no surprise that volunteerism is not only high among Sun Life employees, but is also a source of pride among them.”

This was evident in the success of the recently concluded Sun Life Volunteer Fair, where employees had the chance to learn more about Sun Life Foundation partner organizations, such as ABS-CBN Foundation, Good Neighbors International Philippines, NVC Foundation, Philippine Red Cross, Save the Children, and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines, and donate to the causes they wish to support.

“We’re grateful to our leaders, fellow Sun Lifers, and partner organizations for all the support they give,” Millete said. “It takes a lot of work to build a brighter world, but with everyone’s commitment, we can make it happen one day at a time
